Security tightened in North Malabar

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), North Zone, N. Shanker Reddy has said that security has been tightened in Kannur and Kasaragod districts in view of the political violence between the CPI(M) and Sangh Parivar organisations.

Three companies each of the India Reserve Battalion, Kerala Armed Force, and Malabar Special Police have been deployed in the troubled spots.

“Special teams have been constituted to conduct late evening patrol, carry out raids, and detect bombs. Most of the incidents such as house attacks and setting ablaze of vehicles occur during night. Intra and inter-district movement of vehicles are being checked,” Mr. Reddy told The Hindu .

Review meetings

The ADGP held two meetings with Circle Inspectors, Deputy Superintendents of Police, and Superintendents of Kannur and Kasaragod districts at Kanhangad and Kannur on Monday to chalk out an action plan.

A series of events, including the observance of the first death anniversary of RSS functionary Kathirur Manoj, could incite political feeling is coming up in Kannur.

The police have already obtained an intelligence report that the situation is volatile in many parts of Kannur. Areas in and around 12 police station limits in Kannur and two in Kasaragod have been affected.

The influx of DYFI cadres to the BJP, reverse poaching of BJP workers by CPI(M), approaching local body polls, recently concluded Raksha Bandhan ceremony, September 2 all-India trade union strike, Sree Krishna Jayanthi celebrations of RSS, Balagokulam programmes on September 5, and Onam celebration of the CPI(M) on the same day have created a tense atmosphere.
