Professor accused of rape acquitted

An assistant professor at Farook College who was accused of rape was acquitted of the charge on December 18, 2018

The city police has in July, 2016 recorded the arrest of the assistant professor, who was charged under section 376 (punishment for rape) of the IPC.

The professor, accused of raping a 20-year-old degree student of the college, surrendered before the investigating officials early Monday morning. Police officers said the man took the girl to various locations in 2015 and sexually exploited her with the promise to marry her. The girl filed the petition last Friday when the man was found deviating from his promise, the police added. The accused was later produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court V and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
