The five-day inaugural Kerala Literature Festival, organised by the DC Kizhakkemuri Foundation in association with the State Department of Culture, concluded in Kozhikode on Sunday on a note of success. The festival was notable for the tremendous participation of the public besides writers, literature students, social workers and film-makers.

Festival Director and poet K. Sachidanandan said at the valedictory function that the festival had proved that claims of reading becoming a dying habit and the new generation’s lack of interest in literature were a myth. “Held in four venues, one entirely dedicated to cinema, none of the sessions had scarcity of audience. Some were overflowing. And the number of youngsters who took part actively in the discussions shows that they are very much interested,” he said.

Praise for concert

Writer T. Padmanabhan, in his inaugural address, claimed that attending the concert of musician T.M. Krishna at the Literature Festival on Friday was one of the best experiences in his life. He lauded DC Kizhakkemuri Foundation for the endeavour.

Mayor V.K.C. Mammad Koya, who presided over the valedictory function, made the declaration that the second edition of the festival would be held at the same venue from February 2 to 5, 2017.

A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, announced that hewould ensure that the festival had a better and beautiful venue in its next edition. Vice- Chancellor of Malayalam University K. Jayakumar gave away the media awards.
