Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, donates books to colleges

The Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K) donated over 12,000 books to 18 college libraries in Malabar region at a function on the IIM-K campus at Kunnamangalam here on Thursday. The books included curriculum-oriented texts in various disciplines, including management, science, and information technology.

The list also included select titles of fiction, said M.G.. Sreekumar, Chief Librarian and Information Officer of the institute.

This isr the third consecutive year that the institute is donating books to different colleges in the region as part of the IIM-K’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The 18 colleges were selected on the basis of different criteria. “The total cost of the books donated was approximately Rs. 75 lakh, said Dr. Sreekumar.

The colleges, which received the books, included Farook College in Kozhikode; Pazhassiraja College, Wayanad; and Government College, Payyannur; among others.

Speaking on the importance of the occasion, IIM-K Director Prof. Chatterjee said: “What is best given than knowledge? The more you give, the more remains to be given and hence the IIM-K enjoys it as a festival of giving.”

Radhakrishna Pillai, Dean, Administration, addressed the audience. Emphasising the importance of virtues in society and the need for knowledge sharing through different activities, including reading, Prof. Pillai upheld the vital role of books in the distribution of knowledge. Dr. Sreekumar delivered thewelcome address. Senior administrative officer Cedric Thomas proposed a vote of thanks.

Two persons, who displayed great compassion and civic responsibility by saving the lives of two IIM-K students who met with an accident recently, were honoured during the function.
