The City police have registered a case under Section 376 (Punishment for Rape) of the Indian Penal Code against an assistant professor at Farook College. The case was registered on Saturday against Azeez Tharuvana following a complaint filed by a 20-year-old girl student of the college. The police said the incident occurred in 2015.

The final-year degree student delayed her petition as the man allegedly gave her a promise to marry. The case would be investigated by Assistant Commissioner L. Surendran.

The accused professor was also charged under various Sections of the Scheduled Caste and Schedule Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
