Chennithala defends IUML

August 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 04:54 pm IST - Kozhikode:

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that the decision to form new grama panchayats and municipalities in the State was taken unanimously by the UDF.

He said that the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) alone could not be blamed for the delimitation of the wards of the three-tier local bodies. There was no logic in the argument that the IUML showed undue interest in the delimitation process. It was unnecessary to drag that party into the issue, he told media persons here on Saturday.

Replying to a question, Mr. Chennithala said that the State government had no proposal to conduct the local body polls in two phases following the verdict of the High Court of Kerala.

However, the government would state its position at a meeting with the State Election Commission on Monday, he added.
