Cancel order, Calicut University VC told

July 01, 2014 12:40 pm | Updated April 21, 2016 11:17 pm IST - MALAPPURAM:

A group of Calicut University Syndicate members belonging to the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) shot a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor M. Abdul Salam on Monday, asking him to cancel the order restricting women from meeting him and also convene a meeting of the Syndicate soon.

Syndicate members P.K. Supran, P.M. Niyas, Abid Hussain, and V.P. Abdul Hameed signed the memorandum pooh-poohing the alleged threat of assault from “trained and organised women groups by using goonda-like activities.”

They said that the Syndicate should know if the Vice-Chancellor had such a threat from anyone. The Syndicate, they said, was duty-bound to ensure the safety of the Vice-Chancellor.

Other Syndicate members, when contacted, said that they were not aware of any such assault threat against the Vice-Chancellor.

The women on the campus comprising employees, students and teachers, meanwhile, said that they would approach Chancellor Sheila Dikshit seeking her intervention against the order.
