A Southern Railway Employee has won a gold medal in the Asia Masters Athletics Championship, according to a press release.

S. Shanthi, an enquiry-cum-reservation clerk working with the Southern Railway, Chennai, has won the medal in the event hammer and discus throw. She competed in the age group of 35-39 in the 19th Asian Masters Athletics Championship. The event was held in Singapore from May 4 to 8.

She also set an Asian record in the hammer throw event.

Now, Ms. Shanthi has qualified for the World Masters Athletics Championship to be held at Perth in Australia.

The international event will be held from October 26 to November 6.
