Will Elangovan seek Jairam’s resignation: BJP

January 10, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 22, 2016 11:30 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The opposition expressed by former Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh to the revival of jallikattu led to a showdown between the Congress and the BJP.

State BJP president Tamilisai Soundararajan wondered if TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan would seek the resignation of Mr. Ramesh in the same manner he sought the stepping down of Pon. Radhakrishnan from the Union Minister post after accusing the Centre of delay in reviving the sport.

“Mr. Ramesh has termed jallikattu a barbaric sport. Since it is a tradition in Tamil Nadu, is he implying we in Tamil Nadu are barbarians?” she asked. Will the TNCC would seek the removal of Mr. Ramesh from the party, she wanted to know.

‘Ramarks regrettable’

Reacting, Mr. Elangovan said the remarks of Mr. Ramesh were regrettable and that it would be taken up with the high command.
