TMC cadre want Vasan to part ways with PWF

May 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:20 am IST - CHENNAI:

Hit by the abysmal performance of the third front, there seems to be a churning taking place in the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC). Many functionaries have started to demand that the party must part ways with the DMDK-led front and the chorus for a change is expected to grow louder in June.

Sources in the TMC said when its president G.K. Vasan met a few candidates who contested the recently concluded Assembly election, they complained of total lack of coordination between the allies of the third front.

A leader said a few of them wanted Mr. Vasan to reconsider continuing in the front and change track for the upcoming October polls to the local bodies.

This seems to be the mood in the party, which is likely to be reflected at the district presidents’ meeting which the high command has called for on June 4.

Requesting anonymity, a district president said with the Congress winning eight Assembly seats it is likely to continue its alliance with the DMK for the municipal polls and in this backdrop the TMC continuing in the third front may become “unsustainable”.

“We have to change our strategies. A good alliance is certainly needed to bounce back from this defeat,” said the leader.

However, candidates who met Mr. Vasan on Tuesday said the former Union Minister did not commit on anything.
