DMK treasurer and Opposition leader M.K. Stalin on Tuesday said he would not hesitate to approach the courts if the government fails to utilise the MLA funds in his constituency properly.

After inspecting various parts of Kolathur from where he has been elected for the second time to the Assembly, Mr. Stalin told reporters that he would continue to visit the constituency to check the progress of ongoing works.

On the use of MLA funds, Mr. Stalin said he had raised the issue in the Assembly during the discussion on the Governor’s address for which the Minister concerned did not give proper reply. “I am ready to approach the courts in this regard,” he said.

For the past five years, Mr. Stalin has been complaining that the civic officials were not fully utilising the MLA funds in his constituency. Through the social media, he had urged Kolathur residents to suggest how best the funds could be used to help the community so that it could be assigned on priority basis.

On Tuesday, he inspected several places. After an inspection of the lake at G.K.M. Nagar, Mr. Stalin said the waterbody has to be restored or else the entire area would get flooded during the rains. As MLA, he had asked the officials to take action immediately, Mr. Stalin said.

Besides, Mr. Stalin also urged the officials to lay underground power cables in Anjugam Nagar, Thalamuthu Nagar, Kumaran Nagar, V.V. Nagar as overhead cables snapped often leading to electrocution. Piling of garbage near the Villivakkam railway gate and sewage channels in Tiruvalluvar Nagar were also a cause for concern. Officials have been informed and they have promised action, Mr. Stalin said. On Chief Minister Jayalalithaa issuing a statement only for the murder of an AIADMK councillor when Chennai city was witnessing a spate of murders, Mr. Stalin said, “That is how Jayalalithaa feels”.

On the sale of chocolates laced with drugs and the “deteriorating law and order situation” in the State, he said, “There is no law and order.”
