Signal cable fault delays trains

April 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

A signal cable fault near Chengalpattu railway station resulted in a delayed arrival of the Pallavan Express in Chennai Egmore on Tuesday afternoon.

The train halted at Chengalpattu railway station for more than 45 minutes and this caused enormous anxiety among passengers who had to board connecting trains at Chennai Egmore and Central stations.

Railway officials said a cable got punctured near the lake bund just 150 metres away from the railway station. This led to the signal malfunctioning between Chengalpattu and Singaperumal Koil railway stations.

In addition to the Pallavan Express, two Electric Multiple Unit trains were delayed for nearly 40 minutes too. Engineering staff attended to the fault and regular services were soon restored, said railway officials.
