Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly M.K. Stalin on Monday sought to know from the government whether it would come forward to appoint a special officer in all constituencies for issuing old age pension like the way it was being done in the R.K. Nagar constituency, represented by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
When Congress legislator J.G. Prince raised the issue of old age pensions in the House, Mr. Stalin intervened and referred to media reports that a special officer made a visit to R.K. Nagar regarding issuance of old age pensions and asked whether officers would be appointed in all constituencies.
Responding to Mr. Stalin, Revenue Minister R.B. Udhayakumar said the State government was particular about welfare schemes reaching all the eligible beneficiaries.
Congress MLA irked
Earlier, Mr. Prince was irked over reminders from the Speaker that he had to wind up his speech soon. “We are an all India party. We are representatives of the people and we have to bring issues to the notice of the government,” he said.
