Following the opening of a commercial establishment at Padi, the traffic problem on the congested Chennai-Tiruvallur High Road has assumed new proportions.

Residents of the western areas of the city, who were relieved after the Padi flyover was constructed and a part of CTH Road was widened, now face traffic pile-ups during peak hours as vehicles wait outside before getting into the parking spaces at the store. There is jostling for space as employees of several companies located there head to various areas such as Korattur and Ambattur Industrial Estate.

S. Sathish, a resident of Korattur, said that the traffic pile-up in the area sometimes extended to the flyover as well during the evening peak hours.

Following the opening of the new store, hawkers flock to the place to sell their wares to shoppers. Haphazard parking of two-wheelers also add to the woes.

No parking zone

While the stretch near the Padi flyover has been made a ‘no parking zone’ and traffic police personnel have been posted there, residents demand that more traffic personnel must be deployed during evening hours and weekends to facilitate free flow of traffic.
