An accused, who faces murder charges, escaped from the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in the city but his euphoria over making good his escape was short-lived as he landed in a police net on Saturday.

Police sources said that on April 17, the accused S. Venkatesan (52) was arrested for attacking his co-tenant Alappan (70) following an argument over some space for sleeping on the terrace of the building.

The injured Alappan was rushed to the Chromepet Government Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

The Chitlapakkam police registered a case and arrested Venkatesan and he was admitted in the hospital for treatment. He allegedly escaped from the hospital on Thursday night.

“However, he was tracked down by the police once again, when he was roaming in front of an Automated Teller Machine, near Tambaram on Friday. He was remanded to custody after an inquiry,” police said.
