Every day, hundreds of commuters board the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) trains at Kasturba Nagar and Tiruvanmiyur railway stations, unsure about the safety of their vehicles. The lack of parking contractors in these two stations has left a question mark about the safety of the vehicles.

S. Arunachalam, a resident of Karpagam Gardens in Adyar, said he has been avoiding taking his vehicle to the Kasturba Nagar station for a month as the parking contract has not been renewed.

The two MRTS stations are important as residents of even Besant Nagar use the services. N. Hema, a regular commuter who boards the train at Tiruvanmiyur, said that since the parking yards of the two stations were in the dark basement, women commuters find it unsafe.

The absence of parking contractors also leads to haphazard parking of vehicles and autorickshaws in the two stations.

Commuters requested the Southern Railway to appoint contractors soon, particularly at Tiruvanmiyur where there has been no contractor for several months.
