The State government has announced a solatium of Rs. 3 lakh to each of the 23 patients, who recently suffered infection in their eyes after undergoing cataract surgeries at the government hospital at Mettur in Salem district. While two of the 23 “got back their vision”, infection for 17 others were under control “but the possibility of getting their vision back would be known only after three months,” an official release said. Four other patients were still under treatment for the infection.
While all the 23 affected patients will be granted the solatium from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund, the 21 whose vision has been affected would get Rs. 1,000 a month under the differently-abled pension scheme as per the orders of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, it said.
