The Tambaram police arrested Johnson alias John for murdering a mason at Kannadapalayam on Monday night.
According to the police, Raju (50) alias Raja, a resident of Dhargha Street in Kannadapalayam, was stabbed near the garbage dumping yard. John of Pillayar Koil Street stabbed him with a knife and fled the spot, the police said.
Residents rushed Raju to a nearby hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead. The Tambaram police removed the body to Government Hospital at Chromepet for a post-mortem examination.
