May 27, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - CHENNAI:

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday extended her wishes to Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, who is set to take over as the West Bengal Chief Minister on May 27, after her party won 211 of the 294 seats in the Assembly elections.

“Though I would have liked to attend the ceremony and wish you all the best in person, I am unable to do so, due to pressing official commitments. I convey my warm greetings to you and wish you and your team greater laurels as you propel the State on the path of development,” Ms. Jayalalithaa said in her letter to Ms. Banerjee, which was released to the media. Ms. Jayalalithaa also thanked the Trinamool Congress leader for having invited her to the swearing-in ceremony scheduled to be held on May 27. “Your remarkable victory for a second consecutive term is indeed an achievement to be celebrated,” Ms. Jayalalithaa said. Both the leaders who had won the 2011 Assembly polls in their respective States have won again in the Assembly elections this year.
