Human chain, skit mark World No Tobacco Day

May 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

This year, the Indian Dental Association (IDA) chose the Elliots Beach at Besant Nagar to tell people the ill-effects of consuming tobacco. Student volunteers from more than 15 dental colleges in the city, carrying placards, formed a human chain to make the public aware of the health problems tobacco consumption could cause, including oral cancer.

A silent skit was also performed by the student volunteers and pamphlets were distributed.

At the end of the event, a signature campaign was held whereby the public and the participants took a pledge not to use tobacco in any form and also to dissuade their friends and family from using tobacco.

H. Thamizhchelvan, secretary, IDA Madras Branch, said the event was being organised every year coinciding with World No Tobacco Day, to get people quit tobacco.
