Four held in connection with Chennai bike thefts

Incidents at Pallavaram, Kottivakkam; six motorcycles, including two high-end ones, were recovered.

Pallavaram police on Wednesday detained M. Chandra Kumar (30), a resident of Indira Nagar in Thirusoolam, for stealing the motorcycle of S. Nelson Robert (24), a resident of Pammal.

A senior official of the City police said mr. Nelson Robert had parked his two-wheeler outside a restaurant near the Pallavaram railway station and was shocked to find his vehicle missing after dinner.

Based on a complaint filed with the Pallavaram police, the officials recovered the vehicle from the accused, a known bike thief.

Similarly, the Neelankarai police apprehended two persons involved in stealing two-wheelers in various parts of the city on Tuesday.

A senior official said M. Ramesh (24) and D. Sivakarthikeyan (21) were apprehended by the public after the duo tried to rob D. Mani in Kottivakkam.

Mani was riding his two-wheeler when the accused, residents of Sathyavani Muthu Nagar in Otteri, came on a two-wheeler and tried to rob him on a desolate stretch in Kottivakkam.

They were caught by the residents after the victim raised an alarm. The two persons, who were arrested by police officials from the Neelankarai police station, confessed to stealing two-wheelers from various parts of the city.

The Neelankarai police recovered six motorcycles, including two high-end vehicles, from the accused.
