DMK questions govt. over Aavin milk price

August 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:37 am IST - CHENNAI:

DMK treasurer and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin on Monday sought to know from the State government the status of the ruling AIADMK’s electoral promise of reducing the price of Aavin milk to Rs. 25 per litre.

Soon after the reply on the debate on demand for grants for their respective departments by Dairy Development Minister S.P. Shunmuganathan and Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar, Mr. Stalin raised this issue in the House and sought to know the stand of the State government.

Mr. Shunmuganathan said that the AIADMK government has implemented all the promises made by the party in its election manifesto of 2011 and the State government under the leadership of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa would implement all the promises made in the 2016 election manifesto over the next five years.

As for the allegation that Aavin was not procuring all the milk that producers brought with them, the Minister informed in the Assembly on Monday that the milk that was being rejected was only sub-standard milk.
