Soon, patients coming to the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology and Government Ophthalmic Hospital, Egmore, for treatment of refractive errors can get it surgically corrected.
The government has given its nod to the hospital to procure a lasik laser to correct refractive errors.
The equipment, which will cost Rs. 3.85 crore, will be bought using funds generated under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.
“Several patients come for treatment of refractive errors. There are certain prerequisites, such as thickness of cornea, to undergoing the corrective surgery using lasik laser,” said a doctor.
The government has also approved the procurement of an MRI scan at a cost of Rs. five crore, and a digital x-ray at a cost of Rs. one crore, for Government Royapettah Hospital.
