A case where the trail ran cold

July 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - CHENNAI:

Even as the police released an enhanced picture of the suspect in the Swathi murder case on Thursday, mystery still looms over the murder of another young woman, Aruna, at Nammalwarpet in March last year.

Aruna Srinivasan (22) was allegedly killed by her friend Dinesh Kannapan (25) at his apartment near Ayanavaram.

According to the police, Dinesh reportedly murdered her using a flower vase and the motive remains unknown. He then wrapped the body in saris and bedspreads and brought it to the ground floor via the elevator and loaded the body onto his car. However, he could not drive the vehicle out as the street was crowded due to a temple festival. Hence, he fled on a two-wheeler.

Dinesh had left his mobile phone behind. “He has not tried to contact his family. Police officers went to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka recently to identify unclaimed bodies too, but they could not identify any,” said a police source. The police also released a poster with a photograph of Dinesh but received no response.
