Vijayakant visits Nadukuppam

January 31, 2017 01:13 am | Updated 01:13 am IST - CHENNAI:

DMDK president Vijayakant met the residents of Nadukuppam in Chennai on Monday to inquire about the alleged police violence on January 23. He also gave away some essential goods to the residents of the fishing hamlet.

Speaking to reporters thereafter, Mr. Vijayakant criticised the police action on the protesters. “It is wrong. Don’t the police know who is anti-social and who is not? They cannot just arrest students en masse. The students have to be released,” he said.

He also said that he was not very hopeful about the State government taking action on the erring police officials.

“They will never do it. They will just transfer them, but no stringent action will be taken. The police should have handled it properly,” Mr. Vijayakant said.
