The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 3.6 kg of gold bars worth Rs. 1.06 crore concealed in toilets of a SpiceJet aircraft that arrived here from Bangkok on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off that gold was being smuggled in the aircraft of international flights landing in Chennai, a team of investigators searched SG-96 that arrived from Bangkok and found the gold bars in two toilets.
The unclaimed gold was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, according to a press release here.
