August 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - Bengaluru:

The president of a women’s self-help group has been booked for allegedly beating up a woman in Vijayanagar who wanted her money back.

Umadevi had allegedly collected Rs. 25,000 from several women in the neighbourhood promising a loan from a cooperative bank. However, it turned out to be a scam.

One of the alleged victims was Sharada, a home-maker from Marenahalli. When she demanded return of her money, she was allegedly assaulted.

In her complaint to the police, Ms. Sharada alleged that Umadevi had taken money from several women promising to get them a loan at minimum interest rate. But after collecting the money, Umadevi disappeared. When she returned to the neighbourhood, Sharada confronted her.

Vijayanagar police are trying to trace Umadevi.
