Just days before the country celebrates Teachers’ Day, a 21-year-old school teacher was allegedly driven to suicide by a stalker.
Gayathri M. was working as a guest teacher in a government school in Muttanalluru in Anekal. She was found hanging in her house on Monday.
According to the police, she was being stalked by Ranjith, a habitual offender, who insisted that she marry him. He had allegedly threatened to abduct her and forcefully marry her if she refused his proposal, said the police.
A few days ago, police said, Ranjith and his associates had confronted her and demanded that she marry him. Police suspect that this incident could have led to her suicide.
On Monday, Gayathri returned from school. Later, neighbours saw her hanging.
Attibele police have arrested Ranjith on charges of criminal intimidation and abetment to suicide.
Earlier, he had been charged with murdering a mutton stall owner who had objected to Ranjith sexually harassing women on the streets.
