An 80-year-old pedestrian was mowed down by a speeding cab in Bellary on Friday night. The deceased, Nazir Ahmed, a native of Mysuru, was in the city visiting his children who live in Kavalabhairasandra in R.T. Nagar.

The incident took place on Friday around 10 p.m. He was crossing the road when a speeding cab, headed towards Kempegowda International Airport, ran over him. A passerby alerted the police and Ahmed was shifted to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to injuries on Saturday.

Their children informed the police that they do not know why their father was in the area. The cab has been seized and the driver Vishwanath has been arrested, said the K.G. Hallipolice.
