The Kadugodi police have arrested a 30-year-old for murdering software engineer Sohan Haldar in his apartment by force feeding him silver potassium. The accused robbed his bike and debit card.
Karthik, a habitual offender living in Rajaji Nagar, was arrested based on call record details of the deceased.
According to the police, Sohan Haldar (35) wanted to sell his motorcycle (KTM) and had posted an advertisement online recently.
Karthik, who got to know about this, approached Sohan posing as buyer and wanted to rob his bike.
On August 1, he called Sohan and befriended him. Two days later on August 3, Karthik called Sohan saying he was coming to finalise the deal. This call was made to ensure Sohan was at home, a senior police officer said.
Then, Karthik went to the flat and had a formal chat with Sohan and offered him smoke. While Sohar was busy smoking, Karthik thrust silver potassium in his mouth and wrapped a bed sheet around his head to make sure he was dead.
Sohan then took the bike keys and helmet along with the debit card, on the cover of which Sohan had written the password.
Karthik swiped twice and withdrew Rs. 27,000. Meanwhile, the police investigating the crime verified Sohan’s call records and found Karthik’s number. They even verified the CCTv footage and bank transactions before arresting him.
According to the police, Karthik is a BE graduate and unemployed. He is the son of a retired bank employee and has been involved in several criminal cases in the last two years.
Karthik had attempted to rob a bank in Rajaji Nagar and a gold shop in Malleshwaram, the police said.
