Pedestrian hit by lorry, dies

A 28-year-old carpenter was mowed down by a sand-laden lorry while another pedestrian was injured on MEA Road in Yeshwanthpur on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Prakash, a resident of Rajagopal Nagar while the injured has been identified as Akkayamma, a resident of RMC Yard.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 10.30 am while the two were crossing the road. A stationary lorry, laden with sand, accidentally moved while the driver was talking on the phone, and running over Prakash. Akkayamma fell on the roadside.

Passersby rushed them to KC General Hospital, where Prakash succumbed in the evening while Akkayamma was given first aid. The public caught the cleaner of the lorry while the accused driver managed to flee the spot.

A case of death due to negligence has been registered in Yeshwanthpur traffic police station.
