Midnight trip for ice cream turns fatal for youth

July 19, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - Bengaluru:

A midnight craving for ice cream ended tragically for three friends on Sunday as their bike was knocked down by a bus, killing one of them and grievously injuring the other two, on Race Course Road.

Shyam, Bhavik — both 24-year-old residents of Seshadripuram who were working in a private firm — and their colleague Sourabh (23) had gone out around midnight on Sunday night to have ice cream at a parlour in Shivananda Circle.

Around 1 a.m., the bike-borne trio reached Race Course Road junction and were about to take a right towards Gandhinagar when a KSRTC bus coming from Ananda Rao Circle knocked them down.

The bus ran over the bike and one of the pillion riders, Sourabh, killing him on the spot. The other two — Shyam, who was riding the bike, and Bhavik — sustained severe injuries and multiple fractures. They are being treated at a private hospital.

Sourabh hailed from Maharashtra and was residing at Maratha Hostel in Gandhinagar. Shyam and Bhavik were on their way to Gandhinagar to drop Sourabh off.

No helmet

The three friends were riding triples and the pillion riders were not wearing helmet, the police said.

The High Grounds traffic police have registered a case against Nagaraj, the KSRTC bus driver, and detained him. The bus was on its way to Madanapalli from Kempegowda Bus Station.
