Lorry driver held for trying to bribe policemen

July 31, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - Bengaluru:

A lorry driver from Tamil Nadu was arrested on Saturday for allegedly attempting to bribe the Attibele police. Elangovan from Hosur was driving a lorry loaded with granite slabs when he was stopped by Assistant Sub Inspector Narayana Rao, who, along with his team, was patrolling the highway on account of the Karnataka bandh.

When Mr. Rao asked the driver for documents, the driver pulled out Rs. 5,000 in cash and offered it instead. Taking a serious note on his “uncouth” behaviour, Mr. Rao seized the lorry and brought in Elangovan, along with his associates Pandiyan and Puniyan, to the police station.

The trio were produced before the station in-charge T.R. Srinivas.

Mr. Srinivas booked the trio under Section 214 (offering gift or restoration of property in consideration of screening offender) along with various sections of The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 and remanded them in judicial custody.
