Kambar to be conferred with Devraj Urs award

The Backward Classes Cell of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) will honour the noted writer Chandrashekar Kambar with the D. Devaraj Urs Memorial Award on the occasion of birth anniversary celebrations of D. Devaraj Urs.

The event will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Ambedkar Bhavan on Millers Road, here.

The award comprises a purse of Rs. 50,001 and a citation. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, senior Congress leader and MP Mallikarjun Kharge, KPCC president G.Parameshwar and several other Congress leaders are expected to participate in the function.

Dr. Kambar is a noted poet, playwright, folklore expert, and the vice-president of Sahitya Akademi (Delhi). He is also one of the eight recipients of the Jnanpith Award in Kannada.

The 78-year-old’s celebrated works include the plays Jokumaraswamy and Harakeya Kuri, and the novel Shikhar Soorya. He has compiled the monumental ‘Folklore Dictionary’ for the Kannada Sahitya Parishad.
