A woman was murdered in her house at Subramanya Nagar, Vijinapura on Monday afternoon. The deceased, Meharunnisa (56), lived with her son and his family.

At the time of the attack, her son and daughter-in-law were at work and her grandchildren in school.

The incident came to light when her son Imamsab, who runs a chicken shop, returned home after picking up his son from school. The door of the house was open. Imamsab found his mother lying in a pool of blood in the hall with her throat slit, said the police.

“In his statement to the police, Imamsab has said that Rs. two lakh and two gold chains are missing from the house, indicating that the murder may have been for gain,” said a senior police officer.

During investigation, the cops did not find any sign of forced entry into the house. Also, the ornaments the victim was wearing were left untouched.
