Buoyed by the success of the Flybus service operated from the Kempegowda International Airport to Mysuru, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation is now planning to introduce more services in the near future.
KSRTC officials, after consultations with the KIA authorities, have decided to introduce services to popular tourist destinations soon. While a bus service to Coimbatore will begin shortly, the service to Manipal will be launched on Thursday.
Speaking to The Hindu , KSRTC Managing Director Rajender Kumar Kataria said: “We are looking to attract tourists with these services. The bus service to Coimbatore will have an inbuilt toilet and this is currently being worked on. It will begin shortly. If Manipal and Coimbatore services are successful, we will certainly look at adding more cities.”
KSRTC is hoping that the sizeable student population in Manipal will use the the Flybus service and has fixed fare at Rs. 1,100. The bus will leave the KIA at 10 p.m. and arrive at Manipal at 6 a.m.
The Bengaluru-Mysuru service, started in August 2013, has ferried nearly 50,000 passengers. What initially began as one bus service has now doubled, and at present there are four trips run between KIA and Mysuru every day.
Officials say that these services are more popular among regular travellers who prefer the direct airport link more than tourists. “The Mysuru service is used by a majority of locals who want to travel directly to the airport from Mysuru instead of alighting at Bengaluru and then proceeding towards KIA. We expect to attract more tourists as well with the new services,” a senior official told The Hindu .
