Fate of government quota medical seats in minority colleges still unclear

Students who are waiting to grab medical seats in minority colleges under the government quota will have to wait as there is still no clarity on government quota seats in minority colleges.

Shafi Ahmed, secretary of the Karnataka Religious and Linguistic Minority Professional Colleges Association (KRLMPCA), said that the association had approached the Supreme Court last month demanding that all seats in minority colleges be filled by the management. “We have also demanded that the fee structure be revised to Rs. 15 lakh a year. We will conduct talks with the government only after the Supreme Court passes an order in this regard,” he said.

The State government is in talks with the association to give 25 per cent of the 300 medical seats from three colleges and 25 per cent of the 120 seats in six dental colleges under government quota. Although private managements relented with a fee hike and gave their seats, deemed universities and minority colleges have still not agreed to give their seats.
