A systematic preparation and not just scholastic skills will help youngsters to clear competitive examinations, according to Ganesa Subramanian S., Director of Ganesh’s ias.
He was speaking at a workshop on civil services examinations here on Friday. It was jointly organised by Ganesh’s ias and The Hindu in School (THiS) at Sindhi PU College.
Addressing the students, Mr. Ganesa said there were many myths surrounding competitive examinations.
“Youngsters think that only those who are good in studies appear for competitive exams and clear them. Academic strength is important, but it is not the only prerequisite. Aspirants need to study for three hours a day constantly and consistently to be able to achieve clear these examinations,” he said.
Some civil services aspirants think that they are taking a risk if they appear for the competitive examinations. There is a chance factor, but that is not a core issue, he said, adding that candidates taking up the exams should be optimistic. Even if they do not clear the competitive examinations, the preparations they would have made for it would help them grow as a person, he said. “The knowledge acquired by you will surely keep you in good stead,” Mr. Ganesa added.
Additional Director-General of Police (Recruitment and Training) Raghavendra Auradkar told students to motivate themselves and be determined to become IAS or IPS officers. “If you become an IAS or IPS officer, you will climb high on the social ladder and you will either be implementing government policies or be a custodian of a district. It means you will be the fulcrum of administration,” he explained.
Pallavi, Principal of Sindhi PU College, said that by organising such workshops the college was trying to improve the employability skills of its students.
