Cancer patient, son die after being hit by tanker

A 48-year-old cancer patient and his 22-year-old son were killed when a water tanker knocked down their two-wheeler on ITPL Main Road in Whitefield on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Shivanna, an agriculturist and a native of Challakere in Chitradurga district, and his son Thippesh.

According to the police, Shivanna, who was ailing with cancer, had stayed in his son-in-law’s house at Kadugodi to get treatment at a private hospital. On Sunday, he, along with his son, was returning from the hospital after a routine check-up when the two-wheeler was knocked down by the water tanker. Shivanna fell off and the tanker ran over him, killing him on the spot.

Thippesh succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

The police arrested the driver, Yallappa, and seized the vehicle.
