A home for children with special needs

April 18, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

Governor Vajubhai Vala inaugurated the new building of Mathru Foundation, founded by Padmashri Malathi K. Holla, a para-athlete, who has represented India in the Paralympics, in the city on Sunday.

“People with special needs should not be looked down upon. If God has taken away some of their abilities, they are blessed with other gifts,” the Governor said in his address.

The building is a dream come true for Dr. Malathi, whose life is an example that nothing is impossible.

“It was not easy to raise funds for the building. After four years of long struggle, we were able to achieve our dream,” said Dr. Malathi.

Mathru Pragathi provides free shelter, education and medical treatment for children with disabilities.

Earlier, the residential home was run out of a rented building.

Presently, the foundation looks after 16 children, and intends to take care of 80 children in the next five years, added Dr. Malathi.
