Theatre lovers in the city will get a glimpse of the stage traditions of north-east India from December 2 to 6 at Guru Nanak Bhavan.
The National School of Drama (NSD), Bengaluru, and NSD, New Delhi, are jointly organising Rashtriya Poorva-Uttara Rangotsva (North-Eastern National Theatre Festival) in association with Department of Information and Public Relations of Karnataka.
Speaking to The Hindu , C. Basavalingaiah, director, NSD Bengaluru, said it is an opportunity for the theatre lovers to have an experience of north-eastern theatre traditions.
Tiwa that focuses on the language and culture of Tiwa community, which is facing threat in the time of globalisation, Nongban Soura, which is an experiment to create a play from the characters of Manipuri legends, Life of Canvas , a painting of modern times, are among the well-known plays on offer.
Ab Aur Nahi by NSD Sikkim Theatre Training Centre Gangtok directed by Bipin Kumar will be the inaugural play.
On second day Life Canvas by Sarsa, Assam directed by Asim Kumar Nath will be staged.
Nawor by Tiwa Bhakha-Sanskriti Charcha Samithi by Sahidul Haque will the third day attraction. This 75-minutes Tiwa language play by Manoj Kumar Deorja is the story of the immortal love between Nawor-a Tiwa prince and Zalas, an exceptionally beautiful daughter of a poor man.
Nongban Soura , a Manipuri play by Imphal Theatre will the attraction of fourth day.
Curtains for this theatre fest will come down with Amamba Leibaki Mathong Huktaba Ningthou by Deal Repertory Theatre Manipur. This 75-minute play by Bharatendu Harishchandra is directed by Pukhrambam Khogendro Singh.
