Diversion of SC and ST Sub-Plan funds will not be tolerated and the funds should be spent only on the welfare of SCs and STs, Chairman of State SC and ST Commission Karem Sivaji said here on Wednesday.

Mr. Sivaji, started the tour of the district, first time after taking charge as Chairman of the Commission, by garlanding the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar near the LIC building along with representatives of SC and ST associations and district officials.

He gave an assurance that the process of filling up the SC and ST backlog vacancies in several departments would be taken up within a month and that the outsourcing and contract systems would not harm the interests of these two sections. SCs and STs would be given priority in postings of key positions in the Police Department, he said.

Later at a review meeting with Collector N. Yuvaraj and other officials, Mr. Sivaji raised a complaint made by beneficiaries that power and drinking water supply to the SC colonies was not proper. The AP Transco and Rural Water Supply officials explained him of the difficulty faced due to these areas being inaccessible. Solar power system and gravity method in water supply would be adopted in such areas.

He wanted the officials to implement in toto the several schemes and programmes meant for the welfare and economic development of SCs and STs and regretted that still several cases of untouchability and atrocities against SCs are being reported.

He reviewed the distribution of land, employment, housing, setting up of industries, education and several other issues.

Later several SC and ST associations felicitated Mr. Sivaji. MLA Anitha and others participated.

The Chairman had dinner with SCs and STs at Balaji Nagar in Arilova.
