‘No possibility of Maoists gaining ground’

November 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Special Director-General of CRPF Kode Durga Prasad ruled out the possibility of Maoists regaining lost ground in the Agency areas of Visakhapatnam and on the Andhra Odisha Border (AOB).

The Special DG came to the city on Sunday after a visit to Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and the AOB.

Interacting with the media, he said that the present circumstances were not favourable to the rebels as youth seemed to be no longer interested in joining the banned outfit.

Further, the CRPF has an upper hand in jungle warfare in the Maoist stronghold of Chhattisgarh and the activities of the banned outfit were brought under control in Bihar and Jharkhand.

The Maoist ideology was no longer relevant and the rebels were losing sympathy and support from various sections, Mr. Durga Prasad said, and expressed optimism that the CRPF would be able to control the Maoist activities in Chhattisgarh soon.

Recalling his days as Police Commissioner of Visakhapatnam, he said: “The city has grown by leaps and bounds. The day may not be far off when citizens have to face traffic chaos as vehicular traffic doubled.”
