IIT-Kharagpur has introduced a new teaching system and it is called PAL (peer assisted learning), with the idea to improve mentorship among students.

According to Prof. Rajendra Singh, Dean Undergraduate Studies, first year of study is an important phase in a student’s life for a number of reasons.

A reasonably good academic performance in the first year enhances the student confidence levels and enables better performance in later years, apart from a good psycho-social standing. Students come from diverse backgrounds and at times it is difficult for the teachers to understand them.

According to Prof. Singh, the Student Help Groups could thus cater to the needs of a wide spectrum of students with diverse learning abilities.
