‘Make city safe industrial hub’

A common knowledge centre to impart scientific and technological information would be established for the MSMEs, said Chief Secretary Satya Prakash Tucker.

Reviewing the status of industries, industrial safety and other aspects here on Saturday, the Chief Secretary called upon all stakeholders to ensure that the City was a safe industrial hub.

A committee of 150 persons would be constituted from different departments like Revenue, Police, Pollution Control Board, Disaster and Emergency Services, Inspector of Factories, under the chairmanship of the District Collector to review the status of industries, he said.

Of the 38 MoUs signed at the Partnership Summit 2016, land was in the possession of eight units, identified for 9 units and yet to be identified for 10 units, the Chief Secretary was told. The District Administration has earmarked 2442.35 acres for handing over to the investors out of which 2000 acres was for Reliance Defence Limited but not yet taken, GM Industries told the official.

51 large, mega enterprises

There are 51 large and mega enterprises under implementation with an investment of Rs 39468 crore and employment created for 49001 persons. There were 10,335 MSME units in the district set up with an investment of Rs. 133573.45 lakh and they employ 141429 persons, he was told.

The Joint Chief Inspector of Factories explained the status of industrial mishaps and the action taken against the erring industries. Training programmes on safety at workplace at all the enterprises in the district were highlighted.

The marine outfall of the industries was not directly causing mortality, the Pollution Control Board officials said and explained the steps they were taking to curb pollution.

AP PCB Member Secretary BSS Prasad, Police Commissioner T Yoganand, VUDA Vice Chairman T Baburao Naidu, GVMC Commissioner Pravin Kumar, Joint Collector J Nivas, DRO Chandrasekhar Reddy, GM Industries Gopalkrishna, Joint Chief Inspector of Factories Chandrasekhar Varma, CPO Rama Sastry and other officials were present.
