Magisterial powers to sector officers

April 08, 2014 08:06 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 09:42 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Sector officers play an important role in conducting general elections, and they have been given magisterial powers, Paderu ITDA Project Officer and Returning Officer for the Araku parliamentary constituency V. Vinay Chand has said.

At a meeting with the sector officers, he explained each step in the polling process and asked them to ensure a smooth election.

On arrangements at polling stations, he told Panchayati Raj engineers to construct ramps at every polling station for the convenience of physically challenged voters.

Voter ID cards can be obtained from Mee Seva centres by paying Rs.25 for a colour card and Rs.10 for a black and white card, Mr. Vijay Chand said.

“However, having the ID card does not give the voter the right to exercise his or her franchise. To exercise the right, the name of the voter should be in the voter list,” he said.

April 9 is the last date for enrolling as voters.
