Bihari women reached Ramakrishna Beach on Tuesday evening braving incessant rain to celebrate ‘Chhath puja’.

Holding umbrellas, the devout women performed the puja with a traditional spread of coconut, sugarcane and traditional sweets, along with a ghee lamp. Devotional tunes in Bhojpuri added fervour to the celebrations.

Fasting signifies ‘Chhath puja’ and is mostly performed by married couples. Interestingly, some of them observe a fast for 36 hours.

“Sun is the source of our energy. Worshipping the sun boosts health, wealth and energy. The puja is very special for Biharis as customary rituals will be followed during sunset and sunrise,” they said.
