Former IAS officer E.A.S. Sarma has asked the Labour Department to launch criminal prosecution against Divi’s Lab at Uppada near Bheemli where a fire broke out on April 6.

Expressing concern at death of workers due to the accident, Mr. Sarma, in a letter to Labour Department Secretary Anantha Ramu, said that so far no action has been taken against the officials responsible for the accident. He said the blast that occurred at Deccan Chemicals near Payakaraopeta also those responsible for the fatal accident were allowed to go scot-free. “I feel distressed that the government has so far not launched criminal prosecution against the top management of Divi’s Labs, responsible for this accident nor against the management of Deccan Chemicals unit for the ghastly accident that took place a few days ago,” he stated. He asked “should the Labour Department let the senior managers of such negligent industrial units go scot-free?”
