Mr. Lakshman is presently conducting classes both at the VUDA Central Park (Old Central Jail site) near the RTC Complex in the mornings and evenings. His students come from distant places like Madhurawada, Pendurthy, Vepagunta, Devarapalle and Kommadi. He appeals to VUDA to provide a small room at the park for safe-keeping of the sticks and swords, used in training the youth.

“These traditional arts are declining even in rural areas. In our native village in Srikakulam district also, Karrasamu and Kathisamu are performed only during the nine days of the Dasara festival.

Those who wish to learn the art are taught only during those nine days.

“In these days of increasing atrocities against women, every girl should learn Karrasamu for self-defence. It not only gives them confidence but also improves their concentration and helps in achieving their goals,” says Mr. Lakshman, who has plans to develop it as a regular sporting activity.
