In two years after bifurcation, the State had witnessed progress that it had not in 48 years, Andhra Pradesh BJP president and MP K. Haribabu has said.

In an interaction with the media at a gathering to celebrate two years of the Narendra Modi Government and his term on Monday, he said that of the 11 promised Central institutions nine, including IIM, IIT and NIT, materialised. Work on AIIMS had begun at Mangalagiri.

A Petroleum University would begin functioning from Andhra University next year and Union Minister Dhramendra Pradhan assured that it would be made a premier institute for petroleum-related studies on the lines of ISB (for business management) in Hyderabad.

While the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research would be set up in Visakhapatnam, the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and the Indian Institute of Packaging would be set up in the Godavari districts.

On the “contentious issues,” he said with the Railway Minister himself now set to contest to the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh, the demand for Railway zone would be addressed.

BRICS Urbanisation

With the hosting of the CII Partnership Summit and International Fleet Review, Visakhapatnam turned an ideal venue for such big events. “The third meeting of BRICS Urbanisation Forum will be held in September in the city under the auspices of the Urban Development Ministry,” Mr. Haribabu said.

The India International Seafood Trade Fair will also be held in the city in September.

On the alliance between the BJP and TDP, in the light of the corporation elections, the State BJP president said: “We (the two parties) are in alliance and we will work together.”

In the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh, the party grew after bifurcation and the membership grew from two lakh to 25 lakh and with the several initiatives taken by Mr. Modi it would become a force to reckon with, he said.
